Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the use of fine needles placed in specific points around the body to help relieve pain and encourage healing. As a whole, acupuncture aims to restore equilibrium within the body by promoting good health and function.

Acupuncture at Allsports Therapy

Our Sports Therapists & Physiotherapists are trained in the use of Acupuncture in common musculoskeletal disorders.

We use a combination of traditional Chinese techniques alongside a modern westernised approach to assess and treat a wide variety of musculoskeletal conditions such as joint pain, chronic conditions and muscular tightness to help speed up the healing process.

Our therapists commonly use this as an additional treatment to other forms of treatments such as exercise, sports massage, advice and electrotherapy.

Acupuncture FAQs

Both our Sports Therapists and Physiotherapists are trained to provide acupuncture and can therefore offer it as part of their treatment modalities.

There are strict guidelines within some blood donor collection services. Our Sports Therapists aren’t able to register with the HCPC and therefore may not meet your  local service’s criteria.

For this reason, it is likely that you shouldn’t give blood for 6 months following having acupuncture treatment.

Please check with your local blood donation service as to their criteria as ask your Therapist prior to receiving acupuncture if you plan on giving blood in the near future.

If we deem acupuncture may be of help, based on your condition, your Therapist will always explain their reasoning as to why they would recommend its use, talk you through the risks vs potential benefits and what to expect. They will then ask for your consent prior to treatment. If you’re happy with this, they will proceed with the treatment.

If you are quite anxious about the treatment, they may chose to treat you in lying and apply one needle, so that you can experience what it is like. That may be it for this session. Alternatively, they may talk you through the process and give you time to consider this, then if you would like to proceed with the treatment upon your follow up, then they can administer the treatment then.

If you at any time would not like to receive the treatment (or any treatment) for any reason, this is no problem at all! Just let your Therapist know it’s not for you, and they will go through further options with you.
